Beauty, is it really that important?

Well, the title says it all. Is beauty really a necessity to move on with life? I've been chatting with Tiffany for the past few days and we were talking about Sue Anne. Then it hit me. The memory of why I stopped hanging out with Sue Anne in Form 1 (Freshie year). She was one of my best friends during my primary school days. Yes, the infamous Sue Anne of SMK USJ 13. I still remember it clearly. It was the first week of secondary school, during English. If I am not wrong, the passage was about a little girl, searching for her mom. In her description, she said that her mother is the most beautiful woman in the world. Finally, a woman emerged and hugged the little girl tightly. She was not what her daughter described her as. She was not good looking at all. This story has something to with the daughter describing her mother's wonderful personality and not her appearance. Then Sue Anne said "Yeah Von, even if you're not pretty on the outside, you are still pretty inside." (She touched her chest and looked at me). Imagine someone saying that to you. It was nasty. Like seriously. N-A-S-T-Y. But I didn't care much. I guess since then, I got booted out of her group and I've been hanging out with my Malay friends more. I love them a lot. Especially Qistina. We've been friends for 10 years now. After sometime, I started hanging out with Hui Yee in Form 2. Tiffany transferred into SMK USJ 13 then but we weren't friends until almost the second semester because we were not in the same class. Together, Tiffy, Neeru, Hui Yee, Kristin and I had every single recess together for the rest of my school days there. In Form 3, Kar Kei joined the group. After our PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah/Lower Secondary Evaluation) we went all out at a theme park (Thanks again, Tiffy's dad for paying!) and took photos in the photo booth. Geez. How I miss them! Tiffy was accidentally booted out of the picture, Neeru wasn't there and well, lots of changes to everyone. These girls were the one that made me feel whole again. Corny, I know. But, bite your tongue.

Now, the main thing is.. ( I am sorry, I had to urge to tell everyone about Subang. Srsly. I love them.) People always. Always. Fine. Maybe most of the time, judge others by their appearance. I mean seriously! The mindset of most humans, [beauty] equals everything. Hello, [beauty] equals nothing with personality. It is amusing how popularity is always linked with aesthetic perfection. Like a stereotyped queen bee, being pretty and stylish is a must. So what if you grow old and all wrinkled up like a prune? Beauty, fades with age. Which also means popularity fades with age too. Correct me if I am wrong but pretty things aren't exactly the best sometimes. (For example : IKEA's furnitures, bimbos.)
